NHL All-Star Game 2012: Absence of Alex Ovechkin Not Bad Thing for NHL

The two faces of the NHL, Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby, will not take part in the 2012 All-Star Game in Ottawa on Sunday, but that is not a bad scenario for the league. In fact, it’s a great thing for the sport.

Crosby is still battling concussion symptoms and hasn’t played for the Pittsburgh Penguins since Dec. 5.

Ovechkin said via the Washington Post, “I feel I’m not deserving to be there right now. I got suspended.”

The Washington Capitals forward is currently serving a three-game suspension for an illegal hit on Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Zbynek Michalek.

Before the debate gets started, let it be known that this is only one man’s opinion. I have played the game for as long as I can remember, and believe me, it’s a physical, physical game. There is a reason why I have had numerous concussions, have multiple fake teeth and have broken my nose more times than I can count.

That is the beauty of the game, though. When I was playing juniors, I remember getting wrecked from behind—my half-shield flew up and I smashed my face on the ice. There was blood everywhere, my mouth was cut up, my nose was broken and when I pulled my mouth-guard out, there were two teeth in it.

Tim Thomas White House: The Ugly Truth Behind His Refusal to Meet the President

Tim Thomas decided to enforce his personal rights to not attend his team’s visit Monday to meet Barack Obama at the White House.

Oddly enough, what most people seem to have overlooked, Tim Thomas was never invited in the first place.

Yup, you heard me. Tim Thomas was never invited. Not only was he not invited this time, I kind of doubt he will ever be invited.

To clarify, the goaltender for the Boston Bruins Stanley Cup-winning team of 2011 was invited. Now, that individual also happens to be Tim Thomas, but that is not who the invitation was for. This was an invitation to the Boston Bruins, and it was their invitation to accept or decline.
